How durable is 24K gold plating on a firearm?
Plated at the thickness we use it is durable for a collector's piece that is handled and displayed. Gold is a soft metal, so a working carry gun is better served by Cerakote.

Full-immersion electroplating and traditional hot electro-bluing, applied at thicknesses more commonly seen in fine watchmaking. Parts are stripped, polished, masked and plated — 24K yellow gold, 18K rose gold, mirror chrome, satin nickel, black chrome. Electro-bluing delivers the deep, glassy blue-black of classical firearms, over hand-polished steel. Plating is the natural companion to hand engraving, since polished cuts read brightest under gold, and a plated piece is usually cased and photographed before delivery.

Strip and polish
Old finish is removed and the steel is polished by hand through successive grades. Plating hides nothing — the polish is the finish.

Masking
Areas to remain in contrast are masked, so gold, nickel and blue can meet on one piece with a clean line between them.

Plating or bluing
Parts are plated by full immersion at watch-industry thickness, or taken through hot salts for classical electro-blue.

Assembly
The piece is reassembled, lubricated and inspected under raking light before it is cased.

Can gold, nickel and blue appear on the same gun?
Yes. Selective masking lets contrasting finishes meet on one piece — a blued slide with gold controls is one of the most requested combinations.
What is the difference between electro-bluing and cold blue?
Cold blue is a surface chemical touch-up. Electro-bluing is a full immersion process over polished steel that gives the deep, glassy blue-black of classical firearms and lasts.
Can you re-blue an antique without losing its character?
Bring it in first. On collectable pieces, original finish is often worth more than a fresh one, and we will say so before taking the work.
